Sneak preview on Solomon Islands documentary in progress - help needed

By Tarcisius Tara Kabutaulaka

THIS is a sneak preview of a documentary about the Solomon Islands conflict that Larry Thomas from Fiji and I have been working on for years.

We started filming in early 2003, prior to the deployment of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI). We went back and did more filming after the RAMSI intervention.

We are now in the editing stage and looking for funds to complete the film. If you have ideas on where and how to access funds to complete this important film, please let me know.

This film will contribute a lot to the history of the Solomon Islands conflicts and the aspirations of Solomon Islanders.

In filming, we travelled to Malaita, Western Solomons and around Guadalcanal.

Some of the prominent people we interviewed have since passed away. They include the former Prime Minister, Batholomew Ulufa'alu; the former Governor-General, Sir Badley Devesi Pr. Wilfred Billy and others.

Help us finish this film.

Having visited the Solomons in 1988 while filming "A Nuclear Free Pacific" for Channel 4(UK) and TVNZ I'm familiar with some of the issues between Malaita and the remainder of the islands. This trail doesn't establish the origins of the conflict. Returned in 1992 to mkse "Rif Blong Yumi" for Television Trust for the Environment and got greater insight. Twenty years on and things have got worse, the context needs to be setup as backstory.
Would've thought Maori Television could be interested in NZ and SBS Australia. Also Dcumentary Edge Festival as a possible pitch next May/June-contact directors Alex Lee & dan Shana. In Uk worth checking out Britdoc, the C4 British Documentary Foundation, could be one of their "Goodpitch" projects, contact Jess Search, Director. Goodluck- I maybe at Documentary Edge 2014
